Lata Mangeshkar will be remembered with a two-day national mourning period and a state burial in India
Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary Indian singer famed for her beautiful voice, died on February 6th at the age of 92. She was on a ventilator and died on Sunday morning from multi-organ failure. On Sunday, her body will be transported to Shivaji Park in Mumbai to pay tribute to India’s greatest vocalist. On January 8, 2022, she was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where the iconic singer was being treated after testing positive for COVID-19.
According to reports, a two-day national mourning period will be observed in honour of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. As a gesture of respect, the national flag will be flown at half-mast for two days. A state funeral will be accorded to the late Bharat Ratna recipient.
Lata Mangeshkar sang in nearly a thousand Hindi films and sang in more than thirty-six Indian and international languages. In 1989, she received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2001. Lata Mangeshkar has won three National Film Awards, as well as multiple Filmfare Awards. She was the first Indian to perform in the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1974.
Lata Mangeshkar offered us musical classics like Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo, Lag Jaa Gale, Yeh Kahan Aage Hain Hum, and Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya over her seven-decade career. She received numerous honours for her outstanding talent, including the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
