It took ten years (and an experience that triggered it) to get Tove Lo to feel at ease to sing about a subject that deeply affected her past: her battle to overcome an eating disorder. Before their release date of debut album Dirt Femme this Friday, the Swedish pop star has released “Grapefruit” and its accompanying video, which portrays the sense of being in a bind by the challenges she experienced in her early years.
“I finally came to an area of love for my body. On stage, I would wear tinier outfits and flash. For me, it felt like a triumph each time I felt great self-esteem,” She said in an announcement. “I was in Sweden and they wanted me to shed eight pounds in just two weeks. They set me on an exact diet plan and I did it perfectly. Then, out of the blue I had these thoughts pop into my mind.”
