Plot
Meet Prithvi played by Vicky Kaushal, he works with a shipping company. One day he loses his wife played by Bhumi Pednekar and his child in an unfortunate water accident. A few years later, he is unable to move on and see starting hallucinating them together that hampers his professional life. He is then transferred to a ship, which is stranded on a beach in Mumbai. While investigating the ship, he found out a few erries belongings of the past crew of the ship. He then accepts a couple of facts that suggest that the ship is haunted. He then finds out the whereabouts of the crew members. So, what goes next is interesting to explore.
Review
As you start watching the film you would be confused to some extent as the writer has tried to balance the script for masses and classes. The hallucination angle remains unexplored, slashed down to Vicky Kaushal who is seen jumping chains like a Tarzan over the chains which are not something, which you would not expect from the early initial built-up. The ship used as a key element of horror seems to have been reduced a lot. The screenplay went good to a great extent as the film takes to the horror sequences making it very much predictable. All the film needed was some effective sudden scares to hold the audience.
Talking about the performances, Vicky Kaushal has subtlety played the character amidst the chaotic mess of a story. He remains believable and more importantly was able to hold the reigns of the narration at places the best. However, the so-called scary scripts do hamper his presence. Akash Dhar while playing the role of Vicky was seen with no value despite having a good screen space. The character is written very lazily. Bhumi’s presence is more like a cameo in it, while Ashutosh Rana was seen decent.
Talking about the Direction, Music and other elements, Bhanu Pratap Singh was able to manage the right atmospheric for the audience, building the right kind of fear elements in the first half followed by a little on the other end. Ketan Sodha on the other side was able to hold the attention the best with his background score in most of the portions. The song in the film also was seen fitting the situation thus making music a decent for the film.
Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship The Last Word
The film falls somewhere between the type called ‘Halloween’ & ‘Amavas’ which fails to come close to the real’. One can find some moments to hold but that’s not everything about it.
