Ramayana

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana is once again enthralling the television audience with a heart-touching narrative. The show is airing on India’s premier GEC Star Plus and is generating interest among viewers. The beautiful presentation with its soulful music is a favorite show for people of all age groups in India. The famous composer, lyricist and playback singer – was Ravindra Jain who devoted himself to making music for this mythological saga. It is a little-known fact that Ravindra Jain was the only creator who was the show’s first choice for composer Ramanand Sagar to compose music for the Ramayana.

Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar shared, “Composing music was the most challenging task for the Ramayana when making this series. When Ravindra Jain came to Mumbai for the first time to visit my father in Sagar Villa and he sang the song ‘Ghungru ki tarah bazti rahi main’. Famous as Dadu, he was a true master. Humming to a tune often elicited words from his mouth.

Sang at low fees
When my father, Ramanand Sagar started work on the Ramayana, we thought of none other than Ravindra Jain. They were both like two bodies with one soul. By relevance, extensive research was done to make music. Notable singers like Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy happily cut their salaries to become part of the Ramayana.

Both Ramanand and Ravindra Jain did considerable research to cater to all aspects of music. Even instruments were carefully chosen – dholak was chosen instead of tabla, the clarinet was used to ensure the authenticity of the melodies instead of the shehnai.
