83 Movie Review : With this great chapter of history, Ranveer Singh and his team knock it out of the park

83 Movie Review :

Star Cast: Ranveer Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Boman Irani, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, Neena Gupta
Director: Kabir Khan

With Kabir Khan’s 83‘, starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, the greatest underdog story of all time, the quest of the Indian Cricket Team to win the World Cup, has finally found its way to the silver screen. While it may appear to be a biopic of the captain, it is actually a comprehensive film that depicts the team’s journey, serving as an ode to all the achievers who rose like a phoenix when no one expected it.

From the opening frame, Kabir Khan makes it apparent that ‘This Indian team can’t win the World Cup,’ and it’s clear that the road ahead would be a roller coaster ride, with the team triumphing against all odds. The first hour contains some sensitive moments, as well as hilarious undertones that make you smile. There are those moments in life that fill you with pride, particularly when India wins their first game against the West Indies. The problem, particularly in the first half of 83′, is that the filmmaker and his writing team repeatedly remind the spectator, through various means, that this side cannot win the World Cup. The movie’s grip tightens when the aspect of repetition sinks in, and it’s towards the interval that the film begins to hold its own.

In the second half, Kabir Khan intensifies the sentiments and plays on the emotions (which can also be manipulative). The screenplay was kept simple by the director in an attempt to appeal to our country’s lowest common denominator. The screenplay’s reduction takes away the thrill and drama, but that’s Kabir’s approach to creating a universal film that can be enjoyed by everyone. And it is this factor that may work in 83’s favor in the long run. The second half of the screenplay is packed with audience-pleasing moments.

83 Movie Review : Cast Performance

When it comes to acting, Ranveer Singh has taken a page from Kapil Dev’s book and immediately immerses himself in the role. Ranveer’s dialogue delivery is superb, and he once again demonstrates his versatility as a performer. Ranveer excels in this area, as the character requires a sense of tranquility. Sunil Gavaskar’s Sudhir Raj Bhasin doesn’t have much to do, but he’s difficult to ignore. He has all of the characteristics of the cricketing icon down to a tee, even the smile. Jiva as Srikkanth is a riot, bringing in the laughter at regular intervals. Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh is dependable as always. In fact, he has the best scene in the movie in the second half, when the realization that he has made it to the finals suddenly hits in. Deepika Padukone shines in her cameo and has a memorable scene in the film. Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khatter, Amy Virk, Adinath Kothare, R Badree, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani and the rest of the cast is amazing in their respective roles.

83 Movie Review : Last words

All in all, 83 is one of the best cinematic experiences that should not be skipped. Go, watch the film and cheer once again for the iconic win that India gave us in the year 1893.
