Madgaon Express Day 1 Box Office Collection: Kunal Kemmu’s Comedy Caper Surpasses Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Rakes in Rs 1.5 Crore
Kunal Kemmu’s comedy caper film, “Madgaon Express,” and Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut, “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” faced off at the box office. Both films were in a tight competition on their opening day. While both actors have been praised for their acting skills throughout their careers, their directorial abilities are receiving mixed reviews. “Madgaon Express” is a comedy caper, while “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” is a biopic based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
“Madgaon Express” features a talented ensemble cast including Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, Avinash Tiwary, Nora Fatehi, Upendra Limaye, and Chhaya Kadam. Produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, the film has reportedly collected Rs 1.50 crore on its first day, according to the industry tracking website Sacnilk. With the upcoming Holi break, the film is expected to perform better over the weekend.
On its opening day, “Madgaon Express” recorded an overall occupancy of 11.08 percent, with around 17.05 percent of the audience attending the night shows. In Mumbai, where 447 shows were screened, the occupancy rate was 13.25 percent. In Delhi and the NCR region, with 510 shows, the occupancy was 8.25 percent. Chennai had the highest occupancy of 28.67 percent, but it was based on only 19 shows. On the other hand, the Savarkar biopic collected Rs 1.15 crore on its first day.
Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut has received positive responses from the audience so far. However, Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express unfavorably compared it to Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut, “Dil Chahta Hai,” which starred Aamir Khan, Akshay Khanna, Farhan Khan, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, and Dimple Kapadia, among others. She described it as “An unfunny, unfulfilling Dil Chahta Hai wannabe” and gave it a one-and-a-half-star rating.
