Alia Bhatt acknowledges her privilege; says that her journey has been lot easier compared to others

Nepotism in Bollywood has been a hot topic of debate in Bollywood and Indian mainstream media for the past three years (because apparently rising unemployment, rising inflation, and rising religious intolerance in India are irrelevant and insignificant issues for our Indian media).

Alia Bhatt has been targeted many times for her privilege and having Karan Johar’s backing. The actress, who was launched by Karan Johar in 2012 with Student Of The Year, has been quite vocal about her nepotism many times. Now Alia once again opened about nepotism and her privilege at her latest interview with Harper Bazaar Arabia,

Alia Bhatt said that she “acknowledges” that she had a relatively earlier start and added, “I completely understand where that conversation comes from. The only thing I can say is that I acknowledge the fact that I have gotten that head start. I acknowledge the fact that I do have that privilege, which is why I give 100 percent every day and I never take my work for granted. The only thing I can do is keep my head down and keep working.”

She further added, “It has definitely come up a lot in conversation over the last couple of years. The long and short of it is, I empathise. I understand that it’s possibly been easier for me to get through the door than maybe the next person. And I compare my dreams to another person’s dreams: no dream is bigger or smaller, or more intense. Everybody’s dreams are the same, everybody’s desire is the same.”

Alia Bhatt is set to make her Hollywood debut with spy thriller ‘Heart Of Stone’, where she will be seen alongside Gal Gadot, Jamie Dorman. The film is scheduled to stream on Netflix from 11 August 2023. She also has two Bollywood films coming out: Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, in which she co-stars with Ranveer Singh, and Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa, in which she co-stars with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.
