Despite all hype and huge expectation the Magnum Opus of Anurag Kashyap– Bombay Velvet failed miserably over the box office. Right from getting a low opening of 5.40 crores to the first weekend collection of mere 21 crores, the film continued to do low business at the box office. The low occupancy report failed to garner any word of mouth of buzz for the film, which eventually failed to draw the audience towards the film.
Considering the whopping amount of budget of around 120 crores, the collection at the box office for the film was nothing but peanuts. However, the poor performance of the film also seen giving an allegation of hampering the stardom of Ranbir Kapoor, which is however, is not the case. The film’s collection is equated to the earlier movie of Ranbir Kapoor called Besharam released in 2013, which was also called as Flop.
As per reports, Bombay Velvet’s first week box office collection tolled to around 23 crores, which is really a small figure. In fact, too small enough to make the film a flop over box office. This compelled its director to come forward and announce that he has no regrets losing his film so badly over the box office. On the other side, the movies like Piku starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan is reaching close to 100 crore club. Even the Akshay Kumar starrer film Gabbar Is Back too is doing good and has reached on the verge to collect 100 crores.
