Telangana Government allows reopening of theatres with full occupancy

Cinema halls

Good news for the moviegoers. Telangana state has announced the reopening of theatres with full occupancy. The decision was taken on July 19 2021 by the members of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) who met Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. However, according to the reports most theatres are likely to reopen with new releases only on July 23.

A representation has been submitted by the members of TFCC demanding that the government exempt them from paying property tax. According to the reports published in Indian Express, the members demanded ‘exempt of tax for the period covering the last one-and-a-half years, allow single-screen theatres to collect parking fees and screen more than four shows in a day, exempt them from paying State GST and reduce the charges levied on the permissions given for film shooting, because of the financial losses faced by them due to the Covid-induced lockdown’.

As per the reports the government released GOs for their previous demands, to which the State government had already given their nod.
