2016 witnessed a Marathi film, which created history, yes we are talking about the movie Sairat. The film has simply created history with its total collection even beating the domestic collection of SRK starrer film Fan. The movie has emerged out as an all-time blockbuster in M Town. So far the Marathi movie has earned 89 crores and slowly and steadily reaching to the magic figure of 100. Sooner or later it will certainly going to enter into the hundred crore club thus becoming the only film in 2016 in Marathi cinema to make up this mark.
Whether it is a single screen or multiplex the film has proved itself to be a decent grocer over the box office. Though many of the film sin M Town have kept on pouring inside the screens yet it failed to surpass or supersede Sairat in many ways. Right from the critics to the audience, everyone seemed to be applauding the film and the way it has been made with novices kept in the main leads.
The Nagraj Manjule directed film has stormed the M Town this year with even getting the jury award at the National Awards apart from being screened even overseas at the prestigious film festivals. The entire state of Maharashtra has witnessed an overwhelming response particularly from the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad, the response has been phenomenal.
All thanks to the director who moved the table with new comers like Akash and Rinku play the lead characters in this romantic drama thriller film. Ever since the release of the film, which was seen on 29th of April, the ball kept rolling over the box office even the neighboring states like Gujarat too witnessed a decent collection.
