Meri Pyari Bindu Movie Review : Power packed performances of Pari & Ayushmann

Meri Pyaari Bindu Movie

Movie – Meri Pyaari Bindu

Director – Akshay Roy

Studio– Yash Raj Films

Star castAyushmann Khurrana & Parineeti Chopra

Rating – 2.5

On the first day first show for the theatre is barely occupied and (no prizes for guessing) is populated with teenagers and college-going kids. The film seems to be a big gamble for its lead actress Parineeti Chopra, whose last film was way back on 2014. Well, time to dig in deep into the film to get the crux.

Plot

The film starts with Abhimanyu aka Bubla (Ayushmann Khurrana) an adult book writer trying to get his next book ready. Despite his immense success in the genre Abhimanyu is an unhappy man. He has his share of fans and of course haters. Abhimanyu’s parents decide to trick their only son and bring him by faking a divorce. An angry Bubla gets a Bengali style welcome when he returns back only to unearth some of his deepest feelings that he had buried years ago. And the reason for his present day situation and angst is Bindu (Parineeti Chopra). A friend who he fell head over heels in love with.

Review

We got a sneak peek at Abhimanyu’s true feelings for Bindu and the latter’s lack of interest in Bubla while watching the trailer itself. The first half of the film takes you back and forth in Abhimanyu and Bindu’s life. The film so far is from Abhimanyu’s perspective and the makers have maintained the mystery around Bindu’s character. Parineeti and Ayushmann look super cute together. The highlight of the first half however is Ayushmann and the hit retro tracks. There are flaws too, for example the time span shown in the film is flawed. Also the style in the 80s and 90s weren’t as projected in MPB. So far however the movie has been an easy watch, nothing awesome but not bad either.

The music ties everything together, and their love for music pulls their relationship forward. Both the actor Parineeti and Ayushmann play their characters very convincingly and the situations are pretty comical. However, the chemistry between them is a little at the lower side. Maybe it’ll grow eventually? What also keeps us glued is Parineeti! Bindu may be a caricature of a bubbly girl, ‘full of life’, but Parineeti can act! Her face is so expressive and it’s a joy to watch her emote. We’ve missed her!

Meri Pyaari Bindu – Final Words

Ever since the first chapter of Meri Pyaari Bindu was unveiled, the movie buffs went into a tizzy of sorts. The first chapter didn’t introduce viewers to the characters, but instead featured two children, bonding over samosa and chutney and music. The makers, very strategically, started unveiling the film’s story keeping the viewers hooked.
