Shark Tank India’s Ashneer Grover resigns from BharatPe after his wife got fired!

Ashneer Grover, the managing director of BharatPe, resigned from the company and the board of directors on Tuesday. Ashneer Grover, a contestant on Star Plus’ business reality show Shark Tank India, resigned just days after his wife Madhuri Jain Grover, the company’s head of controls, was fired.

Ashneer Grover revealed the reason for his resignation in a recent interview, as well as why his wife was sacked from the organization. For the uninitiated, Ashneer was in hot water last year after an audio clip of him allegedly abusing a Kotak Mahindra employee appeared online. Speaking to money Control, Ashneer Grover said, “I am very clear, I will be a private person. Not here to lead my life as per the media, not going to be a slave to these investors again in my life. Will lead life on my own terms. I am now looking up to people like Turakhias (Bhavin) and Kamath (Nitin) who dare to build businesses with 100% ownership. It will take a bit longer to build, I will be in control of what I build and not build it for these opportunistic people.”

When asked if he feels that injustice was done to him and his family. He said, “Not just injustice, it is male chauvinism at best. In the termination letter, they have mentioned about a laser treatment. I can tell you the level of blatant lies they have gone to. My wife had a skin condition. She was undergoing a doctor’s treatment and that bill is a private bill. She had paid for it. It was just laying in the drawer. They picked that up and said you claimed this bill from the company. To hell with all of them.”

Last week, the BharatPe board sacked Ashneer’s wife and company’s controlling head Madhuri Jain Grover, on charges of misappropriation of funds.

BharatPe was founded in 2018 by Ashneer Grover and Shashwat Nakrani, and the company has been the biggest growth story in the fintech sector. The company’s list of investors includes Tiger Global, Dragoneer Investment Group, Steadfast Capital, Cotu Management, Ribbit Capital, Insight Partners, Steadview Capital, Binext, Amplo and Sequoia Capital.
