Review : The theme of the movie Yeh Hai Bakrapur happens to be a social and political satire, which touches a couple of pertinent issues of rural India. The movie is directed by Janaki Vishwanathan having main cast as Anshuman Jha, Suruchi Aulakh, Asif Basra and Yaushika Varma. If you check the story line, you have Qureshi family residing in the distant village in India. They have to struggle to meet their ends. Just in this struggle, they reach to the point wherein they are hounded by the debt collectors and then they decide to sell out their pet goat known as Shahrukh. Selling their goat happens to be their last resort in order to get rid of the debt they owe.
But the fact is the family considers Sharukh as their family member whom they really don’t want to sell off. The little boy in the family considers the goat pet as his whole world. Shahrukh is one of his best friend and companion, now he wants to aver this deal to retain the goat. He finds a barber called Jaffer played by Anshuman Jha who happens to be a clever man to sort out his dilemma. The Qureshi’s really like the idea, however, soon you see it is being dragged into the politics of religion, face certain blind faith issues and last but not the least the greed for money.
The idea of Janaki Vishwanathan, which showcases a number of smaller ironies of life and uncertainness of man’s nature here, is a big winner out here. Here the story sounds very much convincing and credible as well. The cinematography of a small village is really captured nicely and applauds people for their authentic performance and settings. Anshuman Jha played the character of a local barber played brilliantly, while Suruchi Aulakh sounds very much theatrical and over pitched for the movie. Overall, the movie seems working for its original premises.
After dealing with the issues of politics and religion, the director is smart enough to play safe giving a movie with no great conclusion, which, however, is seen diluting the very motive of the movie and makes the story half and ill baked. Looking at the technical side of the movie, editing has a couple of major flaws, you can see several scenes concluding very much in an abrupt manner, while other is seen going in an eternal way, which can compel you to say that the director here forgot to say cut. You can find the hasty climax ruining everything, while the dialogues aren’t that much funny as they are supposed to be. To put in nutshell, the movie has the name of SRK in it, however, it simply misses out the aura in it.
