Plot

Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) is a retired jailer who has lived a quiet life away from violence for many years. However, his peaceful existence is shattered when his son, who is also a police officer, is kidnapped and killed. Tiger is devastated by his son’s death, and he vows to avenge him.

Review

Rajinikanth movies are not standalone films. They are vehicles for the star to showcase his larger-than-life persona. The story and characters are secondary to Rajinikanth’s performance. He needs to have ample screen time to walk in slow motion, throw a cigar in his mouth in reverse, or wear sunglasses with the most complicated hand movements. If done by anyone else, these actions would be eccentric, but for Rajinikanth, they are simply his style.

The world of a Rajinikanth movie bends to his will. The dried leaves and mud on the road know when to fly and form a mini storm when he walks by them. The bullets seem to slow down in the air so that he can dodge them with ease. And the villains always underestimate him, only to be defeated by his superior skills and wit.

Rajinikanth movies are not for everyone. They are for fans of the star who want to see him do what he does best: entertain and amaze. If you are looking for a good story with well-developed characters, you might be disappointed. But if you are looking for a visual spectacle and a chance to see one of the greatest stars in Indian cinema at his best, then a Rajinikanth movie is definitely worth watching.

Performances

Rajinikanth is a master of slow motion and trademark mannerisms, from the way he wears sunglasses to the way he lights a matchstick. But in Jailer, he shows that he can also underplay his larger-than-life persona. He is still charismatic and entertaining, but he also brings a sense of maturity and gravitas to the role.

Vinayakan is a scene-stealer as the villain Varma. He is both menacing and comical, and he brings a lot of energy to the role. His interactions with his goons are particularly funny, and his hideout is a sight to behold. Vasanth Ravi is impressive as the police officer who teams up with Rajinikanth to take down Varma. Yogi Babu is always good for a laugh, and he has some great chemistry with Jackie Shroff.

The Last Word

Overall, Jailer is a fun and entertaining action movie with a good cast. Rajinikanth is in top form, and he is supported by some great actors. If you are a fan of Rajinikanth movies, then you will definitely enjoy Jailer.
