Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal starrer Sharmaji Namkeen has been released today and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The family drama is directed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Excel Entertainment in association with MacGuffin Pictures. Apart from Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, the film also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar.

Story
In simpler words, the film is a family drama where a recently retired man who is a single parent to two grown-up adults, discovers his passion for cooking after joining a women’s kitty circle.

Coming to the cast, as we all know after the sad demise of legendary actor Rishi Kapoor it was a tough situation for the makers to complete the film. Wherein Paresh Rawal became the right choice for the director to continue the role of Sharmaji aka Rishi Kapoor. Paresh Rawal was so accurate with his acting that it was difficult to even realize that two people are acting on a single character. Talking about the OG Sharmaji, Rishi Kapoor, the legend has made his last cinema entry with his signature charm and left us all mesmerized with his heart-touching performance. Overall the cast was great with their characters. The director tried to bring the Juhi Chawla – Rishi Kapoor memories back from the 90s which somehow didn’t get much attention. Suhail Nayyar who played Rinku Sharma (Sharmaji’s elder son) did a great job by portraying a sophisticated son. Taruk Raina as Vincy were a successful fresh hunt by the director. Isha Talwar as Rinku’s girlfriend should have got some more screen space. Well, the supporting cast Satish Kaushik, and Sheeba Chaddha actually stole the show with their fantastic Delhite characters.

Director Hitesh Bhatia has done quite a commendable job by not shutting Sharmaji Namkeen Review . The storytelling of the film was good but not great. It was simple and sweet but could have been more efficient. Peeping into the technical terms, as the film was shot with two different personalities for a single character, the editor had the most challenging job to deliver the film with the expected narration. And yes, the whole team has given their best to deliver what was needed. Music director Sneha Khanwalkar marks her comeback after Manto in Bollywood with this film and she has done a good job by giving peppy foot-tapping music for an emotion-based family drama. Going forward to the dialogues, the writers have very well placed some cringy Delhi dialogues in the film. Not just that, the emotional angle is also very well presented in writing terms.
Verdict – Sharmaji Namkeen is a perfect family watch to enjoy the emotional story and to remember the late legendary actor Rishi Kapoor.
