Just when the Supreme Court was hearing the case of Tandav row, it expressed its concern about the spread of pornography in the digital content. It slammed various streaming movies and series appearing on different web platforms that without any prior screening of its content, most of the films are now coming up with pornographic content. This observation came in the courtroom discussion when the case of Tandav, the Amazon Prime Video show, came to the high court.

When the Allahabad High Court rejected to entertain the anticipatory bail in connection with the FIR on the said web series, the plea reached the Supreme Court. A bench of the SC which was headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan claimed that there should be screening of the web based content as many of the movies today have porn content. The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who was representing the UP Government in the court claimed that many of the shows have filthy abuses.

However, Mukul Rohtagi the senior lawyer claimed that it is a matter of free speech and went on saying that his client is not the producer but the employee of a producer or their company. Justice Bhushan also voiced for having a balance in the content. The court also felt the need to have a censor board for the OTT shows. Last month, the top court rejected the plea of the filmmaker when he asked for an anticipatory bail. The lady Aparna Purohit has the accusation of showcasing Hindu deities that led to several FIRs against her. This led the lady to apply for the said bail, which was rejected.
