Tamil actor-director, producer Manobala passes away at 69

Veteran Tamil actor, comedian, director, and producer Manobala passed away at his residence in Chennai today. He was 69 years old. Manobala was suffering from liver-related issues and was undergoing treatment from January at a private hospital. The late director and actor is survived by his wife Usha and his son Harish.

Many Kollywood stars and filmmakers expressed their condolences to his family as soon as word of his death broke.. Popular actor Rajnikanth took to Twitter to pay his tribute. His tweet reads, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of my dear friend Manobala, a famous director and actor. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”

Actor Manoj Manchu also shared his condolences and tweeted, “Sad to hear the sudden passing away of the Multi faceted actor #Manobala sir May his soul rest in peace, Om Shanti Strength to family members & friends.”

Actor Gautham Karthik also offered his condolences to Manobala’s family and tweeted, “Heartbreaking to hear that Director/Actor #Manobala sir is no longer with us. Was a true pleasure to work with you sir! You will be surely missed! Condolences to family, friends and loved ones…”

Thalapathy Vijay, a popular Tamil actor who worked with Manobala, attended the late actor’s last rites to pay his respects.

Manobala made his debut in the Tamil industry as an actor and as an assistant director to Bharathiraja in the 1979 film “Puthiya Vaarpugal”.

Manobala has acted in more than 300 films and he mostly played comic roles. Manobala has also shared screen space with leading actors of Tamil cinema like Suriya, Vijay, Karthi, Dhanush, and Jayam Ravi.

Manobala’s last on-screen appearance was in Kajal Aggarwal’s Tamil horror comedy, Ghosty. Along with being a popular comic actor, Manobala was also a renowned director. He has directed by popular Tamil cinema actors like Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Prabhu, and Sathyaraj,

Some of his popular directorial ventures include Rajinikanth starrer Oorkavalan. Agaya Gangai, Parambariyam, En Purushanthaan Enakku Mattumthaan, Malluvetti Minor, and Pillai Nila.
