Enter the Haveli for Fun and Captive Performances

Plot

Meet Mirza Sheikh played by Big B and his wife Fatima Begum played by Farrukh Jafar who happens to be the owner of the haveli in Lucknow. They have several tenants in their haveli, which include Baankey played by Ayushmann Khurrana. He never follows any rule laid down by Mirza and his wife and soon we see a tom and jerry kind of banter between Bankey and Mirza. On the other side, the archaeology department and hotshot builders who are after the haveli and want it at any cost. So, what goes next is important to catch.

Review

The story is written with a novel idea, but amidst all this, the writer has missed her patent spark this time. Perhaps it was the demand of the script to keep it dry but doing it for long can prove fatal. Many scenes come and go without much impact on the audience despite being so funny. The banter between the two needed more clear and funny lines like what we have often seen in Govinda films with Kader Khan. Now, talking about the performances, Mirza is a difficult character to play as it involves multiple things. Big B has reached to par nailing it. On the other side, Ayushmann with his incredible talent was able to nail it once again. On the other side, Vijay Raaz remains underused and sadly he was wasted for no reason. Coming on the screen without uttering anything funny would be a naive thing to see about him.

Talking about the other actors like Brijendra Kala also had similar story to tell, while he has tried to add some usual quirks in between the dialogues whereas Srishti Shrivastava comes out as a surprise-takeaway. She seemed natural and can be doing the best. Talking about the direction, Shoojit is at par with this film like his previous movies. The other elements like music, screenplay, editing and other stuff remain the best.

Gulabo Sitabo Movie Review: The Last Word

With all said and done, the film seems captivating and one can watch the drama unfolding. The film has one keyword – Drama, you can catch it for some incredible performances created the rustic way by the director.
