Hera Pheri producer A G Nadiadwala passes away

Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala, aka A G Nadiadwala, a well-known Bollywood producer, died early on August 22. He was 91 years old when he died from a cardiac arrest at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. His son, producer Firoz Nadiadwala, informed the media that his father died at 1:40 a.m.

A G Nadiadwala started his career as a film producer in 1953. He produced over 50 Hindi films during his nearly 69-year career. He is best known for producing Mahabharat (1965), starring Pradeep Kumar and Dara Singh. It remains India’s only film based on the epic Mahabharat. He also produced popular films such as Welcome (2007), Hera Pheri (2000), Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), and others.

A K Nadiadwala, the father of A G Nadiadwala, was also a producer, and Sajid Nadiadwala, a cousin of Firoz, owns a different production company.

In an interview given in 2015 as part of their 60th anniversary celebrations in the industry, A G Nadiadwala said, “While keeping film aesthetics and requirements in mind, we make our budget according to the movie and not the other way round. We first understand the dynamics of the story and screenplay before we put down our expenses. Even if we end up spending a little more, we ensure that the money spent should be visible in terms of both, sensibility and quality.”
