Throwback to the time when Akshay Kumar fired controversy after calling heroines ‘Chusa Hua Aam’

Akshay Kumar is one of the biggest stars in the industry, he is also one of the busiest actors who is working on projects one after the other. However, Akshay Kumar and controversies never leave each other.

The actor was previously under the scanner of netizens due to a 2012 statement he made. The Sooryavanshi actor has stated that he dislikes heroines who resemble “chusa hua aam.” He was criticised and labelled as sexist by many. But Sonakshi Sinha was the one who stood up for him.

If you didn’t know, Akshay had a fantastic year in 2012 because to his back-to-back successes with Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2. He cited Sonakshi Sinha and Asin while making the aforementioned remark regarding his co-stars.

Talking to TOI Akshay Kumar had said, “They are very much in tune with today’s times. To me, they are not newcomers. Sonakshi is a wonderful actress who has her own style of acting. She has an absolutely different figure – a typical, Indian figure and not size zero. Khaate peete gharane ki lagti hain. I am a pure Punjabi. I like heroines who are hari bhari. Chusa hua aam na lagey.”

In 2019, a 2012 interview with Akshay Kumar went viral, instigating the internet users to call the Raksha Bandhan actor’s comment “misogynistic” and “sexist.” Sonakshi Sinha, who was at the time promoting Mission Mangal, provided the right response to trolls while protecting her co-star.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the Dabangg actress said, “Trolls really have nothing better to do in life, so this is what they resort to. People have to understand that I was heavily body shamed at the start of my career, in spite of having lost 30 kilos, and what Akshay said was probably in response to something on the same lines. They also have to understand that I have a great friendship and working equation with him, so he was talking about a friend and not a random person. If anything, he was being a gentleman and defending me with no intention of ‘objectifying’ anyone. And if I, the person being referred to, have absolutely no problem with what was said, I don’t think anyone else should either. People need to start utilising their time better rather than digging up stupid things and making an issue of it.”

Meanwhile, talking about his professional life, Akshay Kumar is now preparing for the release of Aanand L. Rai’s Raksha Bandhan after most recently appearing in Samrat Prithviraj. The films Double XL, Kakuda, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, and Circus will all feature Sonakshi Sinha.
