Harshdeep Kaur is a popular singer and more known for singing spiritual and sufi songs. She hails from Sikh family who was born and brought up in New Delhi. Her family has a rich history of music as her father Savinder Singh is a big music enthusiast and owns a factory of musical instruments. She went to Springsdales School in Delhi, and learned music while going to school. She learnt both Indian Classical Music and Western Music from Singh Brothers and Delhi Music Theatre respectively. When she turned 12 she joined the Delhi School of Music wherein the learnt piano. She is married to her long time friend Mankeet Singh on 20th March 2015.
She started performing at the age of 15 and has worked with some of the best music composers including AR Rahman, Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekhar and Salim Suleiman. Some of her popular songs include Katiya Karun from the film Rockstar, Heer from the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Kabira from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Bari Barsi from the film Band Baaja Baarat and Ik Onkar from Rang De Basanti to name a few. She was also seen featuring in Coke Studio (India) on the popular music channel MTV in different seasons including Hoo, Nirmohiya and Hey Ri.
Harshdeep Kaur also got the chance to perform at the international events, which include the prestigious Southbank Centre Music Festival in London along with Soul/Bollywood singer called Ash King. In August 2013 she was also seen making the headlines in the popular Mosaic Festival in Canada while the same year she was again seen performing in London Mela at the Gunnersbury Park. She is the first female singer to win two reality shows, which include Sufi Ki Sultana and the MTV Video GAGA in the year 2001. She has sung in a number of movies including a Pakistani film called Bin Roye as well.
Besides she has been part in a number of popular concerts based overseas. These include the US, UK, Canada, Singapore and South Africa concert with AR Rahman called Journey Home World Tour, AAS Concert at Purana Qila along with Attaullah Khan in the year 2014 and the Live Concert with composer Pritam at Wembley Arena in the UK in the year 2014 to name a few. She has been nominated at various award functions including the IIFA and Filmfare for her song Katiya Karu from Rockstar, though couldn’t win the title. However, she was awarded as the best singer in TV at the popular ITA awards in 2013.
