Dunki Eyeing Oscars? Shah Rukh Khan’s Film Submitted for 96th Academy Awards Nominations – Will It Receive Recognition? Here’s What You Need to Know!

Shah Rukh Khan closed out 2023 with the success of his last two releases, “Pathaan” and “Dunki,” with the latter directed by Siddharth Anand and Atlee. While “Dunki” shattered numerous box office records, Rajkumar Hirani’s film received mixed responses from critics and audiences. Co-starring Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and others, “Dunki” enjoyed a decent run at the international and domestic box office, and is now in the spotlight for its Oscar nomination.

The film delves into the lives of individuals who take illicit routes to seek a better life in foreign countries, hence the title “Dunki,” derived from the Punjabi term for “Donkey Route.” According to a report by Box Office Worldwide, the makers are gearing up to submit “Dunki” for nominations at the 96th Academy Awards, potentially marking Shah Rukh Khan’s third official nomination at the prestigious event. Shah Rukh Khan’s previous films “Swades” and “Paheli” were submitted for Oscar nominations in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

Following its release on December 21, 2023, “Dunki” faced a box office clash with Prabhas starrer “Salaar,” receiving a mixed response from both audiences and critics. The film’s global box office collection reached Rs 447.70 crore in 19 days, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer “Brahmastra,” which earned Rs 430.24 crore.

Notably,  the review of “Dunki,” went mixed by many of the critics and few even went on to award it 2 stars and expressing that the film did not meet the expectations of fans after a prolonged wait. However, with all said and done, the movie has performed in a decent way at the box office getting good figure at the box office. The Shah Rukh Khan films coming in 23 right from Jan to December proved once again that King Khan is not just the king of romance but also the Badshaah of the box office. At least the figures claim so. Stay tuned!
