Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt will now release on 25 February 2022
Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Gangubai Kathiawadi has a new release date. The filmmaker’s banner Bhansali Productions announced the new release date on their official Twitter handle. “Witness her reign in cinemas near you on 25th February 2022. #GangubaiKathiawadi #SanjayLeelaBhansali

The film’s release date has been shifted several times since March 2020 due to the lockdown. During the shoot, the lead actor Alia Bhatt and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali contracted the virus, which also shifted the release date.
In the film, Alia Bhatt plays the role of Gangubai Kathiawadi – a sex worker in Mumbai’s Kamathipura, who was pushed into prostitution at an early age. The film showcases her journey as the head of a brothel and a political leader of Kamathipura. This will be Alia Bhatt’s first project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Pen Studio’s Chairman and MD, Jayantilal Gada, in a statement, said a few months ago, “We would like to clarify that Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, and Attack will release in cinemas. There have been several rumors doing rounds about these films releasing on OTT platforms before cinemas which are untrue. These Magnum opus films are made for the big screen experience and would be releasing in theatres”
Alia will also be seen in the action-drama ‘RRR’ which is slated for two release dates for the film. The makers posted a statement, “If the pandemic situation in the country gets better and all the theatres open up to operate at full capacity, we are ready to release the film on 18th March 2022. Otherwise, RRR Movie will release on 28th April 2022.”
