1) Zakhm
 One of Bhatt’s most widely praised films, it is rumored to have been influenced by the director’s personal life. The storyline of the film, which is set against the backdrop of the racial conflict in Mumbai, is about a Muslim woman who struggles to raise the children of a Hindu father who was unable to legally marry her. A director decides to divorce his wife while he engages in an illicit relationship with an actress. One of the biggest hits of the 1990s was the film starring Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt. The film shed awareness on the despicable practice of prostitution that is prohibited in India. A cruel brothel owner named Maharani forces a sex worker named Pooja into prostitution, and Ravi, a taxi driver, falls in love with her. She wouldn’t permit any of her prostitutes to develop romantic relationships. Due to unforeseen events, Ravi and Pooja decide to run away, only to be pursued by the Maharani’s goons.

Anupam Kher made his acting debut in 1982 with Aagman, but it wasn’t until he appeared in Mahesh Bhatt’s Saaransh in 1984 that he gained notoriety. Saaransh was exhibited internationally at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival and won three Filmfare awards. Making it India’s official submission for that year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
