This name is popular in B Town for having its roots in Akhar Clan. Javed Akhtar the legendary poet and lyrists is among a big name that has his kids in Bollywood including Zoya Akhtar. She is among the most talented film director of Bollywood who was seen entering into the B Town by her direction debut of the much acclaimed movie called Luck By Chance hitting in 2009. In the year 2011, she got the award under the category of Best Filmfare Director for her movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, besides she even acts and does a couple of other jobs for her movie career.
Wiki : Zoya is born and brought up in Bombay and comes from a good background of films owing to his father and mother both being a big name in the industry as lyrists and screen writer respectively. She did her schooling from Maneckji Cooper and has done her BA from St Xavier’s College, while later headed to New York to learn film production from the prestigious New York University Film School. As far as her early life is concerned, she entered in the film world working as an actress in a movie called Kamsutra wherein she played the character of one of the disciples of Rekha. Besides she even worked in a number of TV commercials including Finolex and Pepsi.
She then headed to direction wherein she started with a music video known as Price of Bullets for a rock band. She then turned out to be a casting director for the movie Dil Chahta Hai, Kamasutra and Split Wide Open apart from working as an assistant director for the movies like Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya. Later she then headed to become an executive producer for her old friend called Reema Kagti’s movie called Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, which was co produced by Excel Entertainment. At times, you can even catch her over the TV as the way she appeared in one of the episode of KBC along with her brother Farhan Akhtar, while she also produced the soundtrack of Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, which garnered a favorable critical response.
She is now an established named in direction for which she started her career with the movie Luck By Chance, which received a good accolades from various quarters of Bollywood. Later she directed Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which is basically a multi-starrer movie with Abhay Deol, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechin and Farhan Akhtar. It turned out a big hit over the box office helped her to fetch the award for the same under direction category. After the release of this movie, she now plans to have a sequel of ZNMD, though her plans are still to uncovered before the media. Currently she is working on a movie called Dil Dhadakne Do, which is a dysfunctional Punjabi family starring Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar, while Anil Kapoor is playing the role of a father.
