His father is a hotelier, who shifted to New Delhi when Arjun was a small child. He was therefore brought up in Delhi though his family also shifted to Bombay for a while but soon returned to Delhi. He did his schooling from Delhi’s popular school called St Columa’s School, followed by St Mary’s School in Mumbai and then finally from The British School, New Delhi. He later went to Okalands College based in St Albans in Hertfordshire, the UK. During his stay in UK, he learnt acting from the barry John’s institute along with the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute based in the United States in New York.

After returning to India, he headed straight to Mumbai wherein he his elder brother was a screen writer. He got the chance to work as an assistant director over the Bollywood movie called Kyun! Ho Gaya Na along with movies like Mangal Pandey, Rang De Basanti and Bunty Aur Babli. Apart from giving his credit as an assistant director, he also was seen in the film called Kyun! Ho Gaya Na thus making his debut with this movie. He later got the chance to work in opposite to Irrfan Khan in the movie called Migration from Mira Nair and also was seen in the film called Positive with Farhan Akhtar, Boman Irani and Shabana Azmi.

Then he was seen in Zoya Akhtar’s movie called Luck By Chance wherein he played the character of a struggling actor. His performance was applauded by one and all in the movie. This gave him another called Barah Aana along with Naseeruddin Shah along with Karan Johar’s film called My Name is Khan. He then was seen in Onir’s film called I Am wherein he was seen in a controversial gay love scene. He also was seen in a couple of ads including with Aditi Rao Hydari in Airtel 3G ads along with another for Axis Bank. He is involved in one of the popular MTV India TV series called Bring on the Night, which started in 2012. One of his recent works include the film called Ankur Arora Murder Case in the year 2013 wherein he played the character of Dr. Romesh. His upcoming movie is Coffee Bloom wherein he working in opposite to Sugandha Garg.
