Actor-producer Shweta Tripathi is broadening her creative horizons with Nava, her debut horror project produced under her banner Bandarful Films in collaboration with Kowatanda Films India. This marks her second production venture following the queer drama Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, starring Tilottama Shome, reinforcing her dedication to supporting bold, original, and culturally rich narratives.
Set amidst the haunting yet majestic wetlands of the Sundarbans, Nava tells the story of Tara, who returns to her ancestral home only to be drawn into a chilling, age-old mystery involving river gods, hidden family secrets, and the fragile balance between myth and memory. Written by Akash Mohimen, the film promises a compelling mix of folklore, fear, and emotional depth.
Speaking about her first horror production and the expanding scope of stories she wishes to champion, Shweta Tripathi said, “Nava is a very special step for me as a producer. After Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which was rooted in love and identity, I felt a natural urge to explore a completely different emotional world. Horror, especially when intertwined with culture and folklore, has the power to move audiences in unexpected ways. The Sundarbans is not just a backdrop—it’s alive, it breathes, it protects, and it threatens. When Akash narrated the script, I was captivated by its beauty, its fear, and its soul.
As a producer, I want to support stories that take creative risks, are layered, and linger with the audience long after the credits roll. Partnering with Kowatanda Films India on Nava feels like the perfect collaboration because we share a passion for storytelling that is both meaningful and cinematic.” With Nava, Shweta Tripathi deepens her commitment to producing genre-driven, character-focused Indian stories that challenge norms and celebrate authenticity.
