Actress Sanjana Sanghi, best known for Dil Bechara, is preparing to enter a new chapter of her career. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, she revealed her upcoming transition into long-format storytelling and her ambitions for the global stage.
The Leap into Long-Format Streaming
After appearing in both theatrical and OTT films, Sanjana is finally ready for her first-ever web series. While she has been selective with scripts in the past, she feels now is the right time for such a commitment.
The project has faced some “stop-and-start” delays, but she expects it to finally go on floors in the second half of 2026. Sanjana noted that shows are a major commitment because characters can evolve over multiple seasons, making the choice of the right role crucial.
Beyond Drama: A Craving for Comedy
Despite her background in intense roles, Sanjana is eager to explore out-and-out comedy.
“Filmmakers I have worked with tell me that they feel like I have this comic timing that I have explored very minimally… an out-and-out comedy will be really fun to do.”
When choosing roles, she prioritizes “fully rounded” characters—women who are fleshed out, imperfect, and multi-dimensional rather than one-dimensional archetypes.
Going Global and Future Sequels
Sanjana’s horizon is expanding beyond the Indian film industry:
- International Ambitions: She is actively auditioning for international projects, noting that global streaming platforms have blurred the borders between different film industries.
- Dhak Dhak Sequel: She confirmed her excitement for the sequel to her film Dhak Dhak, which is currently in development.
Recent Highlights
Outside of her acting career, Sanjana recently made headlines for her participation in the Women in Power Conference at the Harvard Kennedy School, further cementing her influence as a young leader in the industry.
