Salman Khan Takes Kala Hiran Makers to Court Over Lookalike Character and Trademark Bracelet

The Delhi High Court has issued official notices to the makers of the upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy after Bollywood superstar Salman Khan moved the court to halt its release. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed that notices be served to producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, casting director Akshay Pandey, and other involved parties. The high-profile matter has now been scheduled for a follow-up hearing on June 19.

Representing Salman Khan, advocate Nizam Pasha informed the court that a promotional poster released on May 29 featured a character bearing a striking resemblance to the actor. Furthermore, the character in the poster was shown wearing a turquoise-stone silver bracelet, a well-known personal trademark widely associated with Khan. The legal team argued that the film directly violates a previous Delhi High Court order from December 11, 2025, which explicitly safeguarded the actor’s personality rights and identity attributes from unauthorized commercial use.

Khan’s counsel also pointed out a sudden escalation by the filmmakers. While there is no official release date announced yet, the makers unexpectedly dropped the film’s trailer on Friday, pushing it ahead of their previously announced launch date of June 20. The legal plea asserts that the filmmakers are deliberately trying to commercially exploit Khan’s global identity and likeness, making an immediate injunction necessary to restrain the film’s release.

Addressing the sensitive background of the project, Pasha noted that the real-life legal issues connected to the infamous blackbuck poaching case are still pending final adjudication. He clarified that out of the four FIRs registered in the past, Khan has already been acquitted in three. The final remaining matter is currently a Special Leave Petition (SLP) pending in court without any operative order against the actor.

Throughout the plea, Salman Khan has maintained that the unauthorized use of his image, likeness, and distinct personal traits is a clear violation of his legally protected personality rights. With the trailer already out and the defense preparing its response, all eyes are now on the High Court’s upcoming hearing on June 19.
