Ranveer Singh to File Unconditional Apology in ‘Kantara’ Mimicry Case; Next Hearing Set for April 10

Actor Ranveer Singh is preparing to submit a formal, unconditional apology to the court regarding the controversy over his mimicry of the film Kantara. According to reports, a legal document known as an affidavit will be filed by April 10, 2026, which is when the next hearing for the case is scheduled. This move comes after lawyers for the complainant argued that the actor’s previous apologies on social media felt too formal and lacked true sincerity.

To show he is genuinely sorry, Ranveer is taking two major steps. First, he will present a sworn written statement directly to the court. Second, he is expected to make a spiritual pilgrimage to the Chamundi Temple in Mysuru as a sign of respect for the culture depicted in the movie. His legal team says the actor is truly hurt by the situation and wants to make it clear that he deeply respects the traditions involved.

The trouble began at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa. While praising the film Kantara: Chapter 1, Ranveer tried to imitate a sacred possession scene. However, his performance and his description of the figure as a “female ghost” were seen by many as disrespectful and insensitive. Reports even suggest that the film’s director, Rishab Shetty, had advised him not to do the act while they were at the event.

Although Ranveer posted an apology on Instagram back in December 2025, the legal case continued because the complainant wanted a more official expression of regret. All eyes are now on the upcoming hearing in April. For Ranveer, this formal step is a major effort to fix the situation and prove his respect for India’s diverse cultural and religious beliefs.
