Rani Mukerji and Akshay Kumar were all set to team up for the Amit Rai-directed Oh My Goddess. Akshay had even made the project official by congratulating Rani on the release of Mardaani 3, calling her the “Goddess” in his heartfelt message. “Go watch the goddess of acting in her most powerful avatar. I saw it, I loved it. Don’t miss it,” he posted, indirectly confirming Oh My Goddess. However, earlier reports from a PR website claimed that Rani was never signed on for the film.
Bollywood Hungama has now delved deeper and confirms that Rani Mukerji was indeed signed for Oh My Goddess alongside Akshay Kumar and Amit Rai. A reliable source revealed, “She began having creative differences with Amit Rai. Rani had a specific vision for the script and post-production, expecting Amit to align with her experience. Amit, however, held a strong and different perspective on how the film should be presented. The two couldn’t find common ground, which eventually led to a fallout.
”Despite Akshay’s efforts to mediate and bring harmony between the two, it became clear that the right energy wasn’t there to move forward. “Rani also had her reservations, and both senior actors, being true professionals, decided to part ways amicably. Rani loved the script but chose to step away with a heavy heart. The team is now searching for another senior actress to fill the role.”Oh My Goddess was originally scheduled to begin filming in April with a start-to-finish shoot, but production is now stalled.
While some reports suggested there was no paperwork signed with Rani, Bollywood Hungama confirms that pre-production was actively underway with the makers preparing for the April shoot with Rani on board. “They wouldn’t invest in pre-production without proper contracts. Cast changes happen for various reasons, but dismissing it as fiction is irresponsible journalism.”Produced by Akshay Kumar in association with Viacom18, Oh My Goddess features Akshay in an extended cameo role.
