‘Ramayana 3’ on the Cards? Producer Namit Malhotra Says Makers May Revisit Trilogy Plans Based on Audience Feedback

Producer Namit Malhotra has revealed that the ambitious cinematic adaptation of the epic Ramayana could potentially expand beyond its currently slated two-part structure. Speaking to international press at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Malhotra disclosed that the project was originally conceived as a trilogy before the creative team consolidated the narrative into two feature films. However, he indicated that future installments could be reconsidered based on global audience reception.

“We started out wanting to make it in three parts, then we decided to make it in two,” Malhotra explained. “We’re still in the middle of filming, but once we get all the response and feedback, we may sit back at the drawing board and see if there is anything else we want to add or subtract, depending on how the world receives it.”

In addition to discussing potential future entries, Malhotra revealed that the filmmakers currently possess two distinct cuts of Ramayana: Part 1, each featuring a different runtime. The team is analyzing viewer data to determine whether a single unified cut will suffice for worldwide theatrical distribution or if an alternate version will be released, drawing comparisons to the extended cuts of The Lord of the Rings.

“We have enough material to warrant a separate version within the master version,” Malhotra noted. “Those are the kinds of options we are assessing depending on how audiences consume the film.” Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1, subtitled Rise of a Legend, features a star-studded ensemble led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.

Produced by Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the production boasts an original score co-composed by Academy Award winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, across standard and IMAX formats.
