It is certainly a day for the franchise owners. Now, we talk about yet another franchise called Ghatak. Last week marked a major milestone for Sunny Deol and the film industry as Border 2 exceeded all expectations and created a box office frenzy. Currently enjoying some downtime in his favorite retreat, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, Sunny has been sharing glimpses of his relaxed mood on Instagram. However, he’s about to be joined by longtime collaborator and veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi for an exciting reason.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Rajkumar Santoshi is bringing a fresh idea for the sequel to their beloved 1996 film Ghatak. The source revealed, “Rajkumar Santoshi has developed a concept he believes fits perfectly for Ghatak 2. He shared the idea with Sunny Deol, who showed great interest and invited Santoshi to Manali. The filmmaker has traveled to the Himalayan hill station and is expected to narrate the script to Sunny on January 31.”
The insider added, “It now depends on Sunny’s reaction to the story. If he’s enthusiastic, they will proceed further, considering scheduling and other factors. Sunny is very clear that despite the blockbuster success of Gadar 2 (2023) and Border 2, he doesn’t want to sign sequels just to capitalize on past hits. He believes doing so would be unfair to the audience. Rajkumar Santoshi shares this sentiment.”Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi have a rich history of collaboration, having worked together on three major hits: Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993), and Ghatak (1996), all of which hold strong recall value.
Interestingly, Sunny’s upcoming film Lahore 1947 is also directed by Santoshi, with Aamir Khan producing. Moreover, Bollywood Hungama reported in October 2025 that Rajkumar Santoshi is committed to Jaat 2, the sequel to Jaat (2025), which also starred Sunny Deol. With such a creative partnership and exciting projects lined up, fans have much to look forward to from this dynamic duo.
