Raj Kundra Wins Early Legal Round in Rajasthan Royals Stake Dispute

Businessman Raj Kundra has won an early legal battle in the Bombay High Court regarding his 11.7% stake in the IPL team, Rajasthan Royals. This stake, worth an estimated ₹1,000 crore, is held through his company, Kuki Investments. The court has now allowed him to challenge an “anti-suit injunction” from a UK court that had previously tried to stop him from taking any legal action in India.

The dispute began in 2025 when Kundra went to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai. He claimed that the majority owners were mismanaging the company and that his shares had been moved illegally without his permission. In response, the UK-based majority owner, Emerging Media Ventures, got an emergency order from a London court in early 2026 to block Kundra from continuing his case in Mumbai.

Kundra took the matter to the Bombay High Court, arguing that the UK order was unfair because it was passed without him being present. He also pointed out that since he lives in Mumbai and the Rajasthan Royals’ parent company is based there, the city is the proper place for the trial. He argued that a foreign court should not be able to take away his right to seek justice in India.

Justice Abhay Ahuja agreed with Kundra’s team and gave him permission to file a suit to make the UK injunction invalid in India. This is a big step for Kundra as he tries to regain his standing in the franchise, which has been a subject of legal conflict for over a decade. He can now move forward with his main case in the NCLT without the threat of the UK court order stopping him.
