Wiki : Prakash Jha is a popular Indian film director, producer and screenwriter. He is known for making a number of movies based on political and social political issues. Some of his known movies include Gangajal, Mrityudand, Damul, Apaharan, Rajneeti, etc. He also produced a couple of documentaries and his documentary Faces After The Storm and Sonal was awarded as the best documentaries at National Film Award. He owns his production house known as Prakash Jha Productions while is also an owner of a Mall in Patna called P & M. He hails from Barahwa, Bettiah in West Champaran district in Bihar. He had his schooling from Sainik School Tilaya, KV in Bokaro, and later headed to Delhi for his graduation in Physics from Ramjas College in Delhi. Soon he left his graduation in the midst and left to Mumbai to become a painter and even tried applying at JJ School of Arts, however, seeing the shooting of Dharma he headed to filmmaking.

Biography : He then joined the FTII Pune in the year 1973 wherein he did editing course but couldn’t complete as the institute was closed down for a while owing to student agitation. Later he returned to Bombay and continued staying here to enter the Bollywood. He is married to the actress Deepti Naval and the couple has adopted daughter Disha and son Priyaranjan Jha. In the year 1975, he made his first documentary called Under the Blue and continued doing so for the coming eight years. During this eight long years he made a number of documentaries and some of them were highly poltically charged one including Bihar Sharif Riots, Faces After Storm, etc. These got good attention as they were banned for a while and even was conferred with a National award for two documentaries.

His first movie as a director was Hip Hip Hurray in the year 1984, which got a recognized, while his big hit was his next movie called Damul, which gave him the National Award and several other awards. It was based on the issue of bonded labour rampant in Bihar. Over the year he has some of the best movies based on social and political issues. Some of his recent movies include Satyagraha, Chakravyuh, Aarakshan, while he is making his sequel for the movie Rajneeti. Apart from filmmaking, he is also involved in certain social initiatives especially in Bihar and has contributed in a number of things like developing health care centres, vocation training institutes, etc. Via his NGO called Anubhooti. He also works for the down trodden people along with helping the victims of floods, earthquake and other natural calamities. He has even contested on the ticket of Lok Janashakti Party wherein he has lost twice, now he is preparing to contest from Bettiah in Bihar in the coming state elections as a Janta Dal United candidate.
