The second episode of What We Carry features South Sudanese-Australian model and Prada reporter Adut Akech Bior, and National Geographic Explorer and Freshwater Conservationist Joe Cutler, who will be travelling to Lake Ossa in Cameroon in conversation with the local experts to get a look at Prada’s Re-Nylon transparent supply chain.
Adding a little info, the Lake Ossa is known to be one of the largest lakes in Cameroon that serves as a natural habitat for number of species, along with providing the surrounding communities with water. However, over the years, hundreds of fishing nets and other waste has been discarded in the lake that is ultimately leading to a clogged ecosystem. Now, several neighbouring communities are functioning along with the Net-Works to recover the nets from Lake Ossa and resell, recycled, de-polymerized, or transformed them into new ECONYL regenerated nylon for Prada’s regenerated nylon fabric. This fabric then is getting created by the label’s Re-Nylon bag collection.
After watching episode two of What We Carry, a lot can be learned about Prada’s sustainability initiative.
