Actor Mouni Roy has sparked widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing her briefly walking off stage during a live performance at a wedding event in Karnal, Haryana. The incident quickly became a topic of discussion after Roy shared a detailed account of the repeated harassment she faced from some audience members, explaining what led to her decision.
The viral clip captures Roy pausing mid-performance, moving toward the stage exit, and returning shortly after to complete her act. Initially, the sudden interruption caused speculation, but Roy later used Instagram Stories to reveal the unsettling experience she endured both before and during her time on stage. According to Roy, the discomfort began immediately upon arrival. While heading to the stage, some male guests crossed personal boundaries under the guise of taking photographs, reportedly placing their hands on her waist despite her objections. She said she verbally asked them to stop, but their behaviour left her visibly disturbed even before the performance started.
The situation escalated once she was on stage. Roy shared that two men positioned themselves directly in front of the stage, making lewd remarks, inappropriate gestures, and shouting derogatory comments. When she signaled them to stop, they allegedly responded by throwing roses onto the stage, intensifying the hostility. This prompted Roy to walk off stage mid-performance, overwhelmed by shock and discomfort. Adding to her distress, Roy noted that the elevated stage allowed the men to film her from low angles.
Attempts by others to intervene were met with verbal abuse from the men. She expressed disappointment that neither the event organisers nor family members present took action to remove the offenders, despite their repeated misconduct. Describing the experience as humiliating and traumatic, Roy emphasized that performers attend such events as invited guests to enhance celebrations like weddings.
She also highlighted a larger issue, pointing out that if established actors face such harassment, the situation for newcomers in the industry could be even more challenging. Her candid account resonated widely, drawing support from fellow celebrities like Bhumi Pednekar and Tahira Kashyap, who praised Roy for speaking out and standing up against harassment.
