Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama, Maatrubhumi (previously titled Battle of Galwan), has hit another roadblock. According to a report by NDTV, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld the film’s clearance certificate until further notice, throwing its theatrical release into complete uncertainty.
Missed Release Windows
The film’s timeline has faced consecutive setbacks due to the pending certification:
Original Release Date: April 17 (Ahead of Eid) and it is Postponed now, while the Revised Release Target is August (Independence Day weekend) — Now expected to be missed
The Controversies So Far
International Backlash: Following the release of the film’s teaser, users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo heavily criticized the project, alleging a misrepresentation of the border clash.
Government Stance: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially distanced itself from the project. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified, “Issues regarding filmmaking in India… are looked after by the relevant authorities. As far as we are concerned, MEA has no role in this or such ventures.”
Title Alteration: In an effort to smooth things over, the makers recently changed the title from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi and incorporated related script modifications, though this has yet to secure CBFC clearance.
Cast, Crew, and Project Details
The film is inspired by the real-life 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, focusing on the disengagement operation at the border.
