Legal Battle Erupts Over ‘Rang De Lal’ in Dhurandhar: The Revenge

The massive box office success of the spy action thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been met with a significant legal hurdle as Trimurti Films has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against director Aditya Dhar’s production house, B62 Studios. The central dispute involves the unauthorized use of the iconic song ‘Rang De Lal’ within the film. This track originally gained fame in the 1989 blockbuster Tridev, where it was composed by the legendary duo Anand–Milind and written by Sameer Anjaan.

According to the lawsuit, Trimurti Films maintains absolute ownership and control over the musical rights and the original sound recording of the track. They allege that B62 Studios and the producers of the sequel failed to obtain the necessary legal permissions before incorporating the song, or a version substantially similar to it, into the 2026 film. The production banner claims that this act constitutes a serious breach of copyright law, including the unauthorized reproduction of the work and its communication to the public.

Trimurti Films is currently seeking a court injunction to immediately restrain the filmmakers from any further use of the song. This includes a demand to halt its appearance in theatrical screenings, on digital streaming platforms, and within various promotional materials. Furthermore, the plaintiffs are seeking financial damages for what they describe as the unauthorized commercial exploitation of their intellectual property.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge was released on March 19, 2026, as a direct sequel to the 2025 hit Dhurandhar. While the film has shattered numerous box office records and recently became the first Bollywood film to cross the ₹1,000 crore mark in India, its journey has been increasingly complicated by legal disputes. This copyright suit over ‘Rang De Lal’ is just one of several high-profile challenges currently keeping the film in the headlines.
