Lara Dutta Advocates for Increased Inclusion and Representation of Women on Screen through OTT

Lara Dutta recently shared her thoughts on ageing and the evolving concept of glamour in the film industry in an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in. With over two decades in the industry, Lara joined after winning Miss Universe. Given her latest project, ‘Ranneeti,’ which explores politics and the narratives set by power brokers, Lara was asked if she had faced the brunt of politics in her career. She candidly replied, acknowledging that every industry has its own politics and that she would be lying if she said it had been smooth sailing. While she may have faced challenges,
Lara believes that those experiences didn’t dent her career, personality, or who she is as a person. She recognized that it’s a part of the industry, but it’s important to move forward and overcome any setbacks. During the interview, Lara also discussed the fading importance of glamour as she grows older. She explained that while glamour was never a prerequisite for her when she started out, it was a default expectation. However, with the advent of OTT platforms and changing dynamics in the industry, there are now more opportunities to explore diverse roles and characters that break away from the traditional notions of glamour.
Referring to her character in ‘Ranneeti,’ Lara highlighted that Manisha Sehgal is a strong and well-put-together woman, without the need for her to be de-glamorized to portray power. She believes that these cliched and stereotypical norms are slowly being dismantled, leading to greater inclusion and representation, especially for women on screen. Regarding ageing, Lara acknowledged that it can be both scary and beautiful, with its own set of pros and cons. There are days when one may feel the weight of getting older, but there is also beauty in embracing the freedom that comes with accepting oneself as time passes.
With age, the unnecessary worries and concerns about others’ opinions fall away, allowing individuals to focus on their own happiness and inner growth. Lara Dutta’s insightful remarks shed light on her experiences in the industry, highlighting the changing dynamics of glamour and the importance of embracing oneself as one grows older. Her openness about facing and overcoming challenges showcases her resilience and determination to thrive in the ever-evolving world of entertainment.
