‘Kesari Chapter 2’ 1st weekend Box Office Report: Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan’s Film Surpasses ₹29 Crore Mark

Kesar Chapter 2, featuring Akshay Kumar, has made a promising debut at the box office. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film also stars R. Madhavan, Ananya Pandey, and Amit Sal. Since its release on April 18, 2025, the film has reportedly grossed over ₹29 crore within its first three days. According to Sacnilk.com, the movie, which dramatizes advocate C. Sankaran Nair’s efforts to unveil the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, earned ₹11.84 crore on its third day alone.
However, Kesari Chapter 2 still trails behind Akshay’s previous film, Sky Force, which was released on January 24, 2025, and had a remarkable opening weekend with a domestic nett figure of ₹61.75 crore. Based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, Kesari Chapter 2 revolves around C. Sankaran Nair and the events surrounding the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Hindi film serves as a spiritual sequel to Kesari (2019) and is produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films. In the film, Akshay Kumar portrays lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, while Madhavan plays advocate Neville McKinley, and Ananya Pandey takes on the role of Dilreet Gill.

A review by The Hindu noted, “The camera captures the massacre with the intent to provoke and set the stage for an enraged Akshay. Tyagi becomes so focused on showcasing his star that the storytelling suffers. There’s a lack of effort to explore the backstory behind the massacre. The Rowlatt Act is overlooked, and the British confusion over Hindu-Muslim unity on Ram Navami receives only a fleeting mention, with no reference to the Hunter Commission.”For context, Kesari Chapter 2 made ₹7.75 crore on its opening day and ₹9.75 crore on the second day, bringing its total collection to ₹29.34 crore.
