Jug Jugg Jeeyo: Pakistani Singer Abrar Ul Haq claims Karan Johar copied his song Nach Punjaban, to take legal action

Karan Johar backed film Jug Jugg Jeeyo is all set to hit the theatres. Starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor the trailer was released on Sunday, May 22. One of the major highlights of the trailer was the star cast dancing to the famous Punjabi song Nach Punjaban.

Now, the song’s original creator, Pakistani singer Abrar Ul Haq, has threatened to sue Karan Johar and his team, claiming that his song was used without giving him proper credit. On Sunday, May 22, the singer-songwriter wrote on Twitter that he would go to court to seek restitution.

“I have not sold my song “ Nach Punjaban” to any Indian movie and reserve the rights to go to court to claim damages. Producers like @karanjohar should not use copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all. @DharmaMovies @karanjohar”, read his first tweet.

His next tweet read, “Song “Nach Punjaban” has not been licensed to anyone. If someone is claiming it, then produce the agreement. I will be taking legal action. #NachPunjaban”. Abrar’s song was a South Asian chartbuster when it was released in the early 2000s.

In fact, Billo De Ghar, the musician’s first album as a singer, was released in 1995 and sold over 40 million copies worldwide, earning him the title “King of Pakistani Pop.” Abrar-Ul-Haq is now actively involved in Pakistani politics and a major philanthropist in the neighbouring country.

As of now, no one from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has responded to the Pakistani singer-claim. songwriter’s Jug Jugg Jeeyo, directed by Raj Mehta, is set to be released on June 24 in theatres worldwide.
