Narrated from the perspective of a Gullak (piggy bank), the web series well explores the imperfect relationships and aspirations of the Mishra family. However, the best thing about the series is the non-compromised love and bonhomie shared by each family member, regardless of the problems coming in their day to day life. The unconventional style of storytelling has definitely been the cherry on the top for this series. Starring Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Sunita Rajwar Harsh Mayar and Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Gullak has added another feather into SonyLIV’s existing repertoire of 150+ originals across various languages.
It should be known that Gullak will also be available in Tamil and Telugu soon.
The show has been written by Nikhil Vijay, which is set around the backdrop of Gullak. The entire story revolves around the north Indian backdrop under a narrative story of a small family struggling to save up for their better future. Daily hassles and imperfections are routine for the Mishras who manage to stick together and sail through all that comes in their way.
Within the small traditional middle class house confinement, the detailed view of the series portrays the perfect medley of emotions, arguments and fun filled laughter.
Talking about Gullak, Uday Sodhi, Business Head – Digital, Sony Pictures Networks India, mentioned, “Research states that out of the total time viewers spend on videos, *93% goes in viewing regional language content, primarily Hindi. There is an increasing empathy for stories that are relatable, contextual and speak in a language of their comfort. Our new offering Gullak, is a compelling slice of life story that strikes a chord and leaves you asking for more.”
