Fact Check: KVN Productions Reached Out to Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Producer Ramesh Taurani to Avert Toxic Clash; “Discussion Happened Well Before”

This morning brought a surprising update in the film industry: Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups, originally set to release on March 19, has been postponed to June 4. Meanwhile, the team behind Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai—starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde was caught off guard by the official announcement. Their film is scheduled to release on June 5, and Bollywood Hungama has learned that the Toxic team did not directly inform them of the date change.

A source shared, “When a film books a release slot, it’s customary to inform others if a new project plans to release on the same day. That didn’t happen here. Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan, and producer Ramesh Taurani found out about Toxic’s March 19 release only after actor Yash announced it on social media.”The source added, “The Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai team is upset and now debating whether to stick with their date or consider a change.”

When contacted, Ramesh Taurani said, “We’ve not decided anything yet.”An industry insider remarked, “Toxic was the first to lock the March 19 slot. Did the makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge check with them before announcing their release on the same date?” The source responded, “Two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s hoped that producers revert to the practice of calling each other to avoid clashes and share screens amicably.” Amid these concerns, KVN Productions clarified the situation.

A spokesperson stated, “When KVN’s owner, Mr. Venkat, noticed the overlapping dates, he personally contacted Mr. Ramesh Taurani to prevent friction. Anil Thadani facilitated the talks. The Toxic team was clear they didn’t want the other film to face uncertainties like theirs earlier. The discussions occurred well before the official announcement, so both teams were fully aware of the potential clash.

Everything was handled transparently and cordially.” Regarding the new date, another source explained, “Distributor Anil Thadani strongly recommended moving Toxic to June 4, anticipating that Middle East tensions would ease and the IPL season would conclude by then. The producers and actor Yash agreed, seeing merit in this decision.”
