Dinesh Vijan: ‘Mahavatar’ is Six Times the Size of ‘Chhaava’; ‘Ramayana’ Will Pave the Way for Global Success

Producer Dinesh Vijan recently shared exciting updates about his upcoming film, Mahavatar, which stars Vicky Kaushal. The movie focuses on the life of Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Vijan revealed that this project is being built on a massive scale—nearly six times the size of his 2025 hit movie, Chhaava. He explained that his goal is to take Indian culture to a global audience with the best possible production quality.

Reflecting on his past work, Vijan spoke about the huge success of Chhaava. He admitted it was a major gamble because the team had never made a historical epic before, and they didn’t sell the streaming rights before it hit theaters. However, the film proved that audiences would show up for a great story, as it recovered its entire budget and more just from ticket sales. This success has given the team the confidence to dream even bigger for Mahavatar.

Vijan also expressed strong support for Namit Malhotra’s upcoming Ramayana, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. He believes that if Ramayana succeeds when it releases this Diwali, it will clear the path for Mahavatar to become a global phenomenon. Both producers are committed to a “theaters-first” approach, focusing on creating big cinematic events that bring people back to the movies.
