Just after the OTT giant – Netflix premiered the spy drama movie-Dhurandhar, it was time for others to pay the bid. The film which quickly became a sensation on Netflix, we hear the excitement for the sequel has surged. The makers have even released the teaser of the sequel making it a grand and big franchise. In a surprising development, the digital rights for Dhurandhar 2 have been acquired by Jio Hotstar. As per reliable sources that revealed that Jio Studios strategically secured these rights to boost their valuation of non-theatrical content.
A trade insider told Bollywood Hungama, “Netflix initially offered Rs. 175 crore to buy both installments before the first part’s release. However, demonstrating immense confidence in their product, Jio Studios waited for the first part to release and then clinched a whopping Rs. 150 crore deal for the second part alone which is almost double what Netflix paid for the first.”
While the digital rights for Dhurandhar Part One were sold for Rs. 85 crore, Dhurandhar 2 fetched a staggering Rs. 150 crore. The source added, “This Rs. 150 crore deal is among the biggest digital acquisitions in recent years, especially as OTT platforms have generally slowed their acquisition pace.
