CBFC Requests 11 Changes in Homebound, Censors 77 Seconds; Key Cricket Match Scene Shortened by 32 Seconds

Homebound, India’s official entry to the Oscars, is slated to release tomorrow. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, this Dharma Productions film follows Dhadak 2 as the second consecutive project from the banner addressing societal discrimination. However, like Dhadak 2Homebound faced scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Several reports indicate that Homebound was referred to the Revising Committee (RC) after the Examining Committee (EC) reportedly requested multiple cuts. The RC granted certification only after 11 modifications were made. Among the changes, the RC muted and replaced certain words in six instances. A 5-second dialogue, “Aloo gobhi…khaate hai,” was removed entirely. A 2-second visual of a man performing puja was censored. At 21 minutes, a dialogue was muted and replaced with a more “suitable” shot. The word “gyaan” was also removed and substituted.
Significantly, the crucial cricket match scene at 1 hour and 4 minutes was altered, with 32 seconds of footage deleted. Additionally, two other scenes—one lasting 16 seconds and another 20 seconds, both at around 1 hour and 22 minutes—were cut. A 2-second dialogue was muted, and visuals of a passing car were modified to meet CBFC guidelines.

Following these changes, Homebound received a U/A 16+ certificate on September 12. The film’s final runtime, as per the censor certificate, is 122 minutes (2 hours and 2 minutes).
