‘Batwara’ Team to Unveil Special Father-Son Promo Featuring Sunny Deol and Karan Deol on Father’s Day

With roughly two months left before its grand theatrical release, the marketing machinery for Aamir Khan Productions’ Batwara is moving into high gear. While the film’s official teaser is locked for a June 15 launch, the makers are quietly preparing an exclusive secondary promo designed around a highly anticipated on-screen reunion. Insiders reveal that a unique asset is being crafted to highlight the real-life father-son duo of Sunny Deol and Karan Deol, who are sharing screen space for the very first time.

The team plans to drop this special promo on June 21, 2026, to coincide with Father’s Day celebrations. Because Sunny and Karan share a deeply critical and interesting dynamic within the film’s narrative, the creative team felt this would be the absolute perfect thematic window to showcase their unique bond. While a final executive call will be made next week, the promo is currently on track for the holiday weekend. This project marks Karan Deol’s third feature film, following his 2019 debut Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, which was directed by Sunny, and the 2021 comedy Velle.

The mega-project has also undergone a significant identity shift behind the scenes. Originally announced as Lahore 1947, the makers briefly toyed with the title Batwara 1947 before officially streamlining it to simply Batwara. The movie is an official adaptation of Syed Asghar Wajahat’s iconic 1980 play, ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’. The historic narrative follows a Muslim migrant family moving from Lucknow to Lahore during Partition, only to find an elderly Hindu matriarch refusing to leave her ancestral haveli. The makers felt Batwara was a far more holistic and powerful title to represent this emotional cross-border story.

The highly awaited period drama is officially scheduled to hit cinemas on August 13, 2026, just in time for the lucrative Independence Day holiday weekend. The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, marking a major reunion with Sunny Deol, and is produced by Aamir Khan, who will also appear in a pivotal supporting role. Driven by a spectacular ensemble cast that includes Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, and Ali Fazal, alongside Sunny Deol’s massive box office momentum following the historic success of Border 2, Batwara is widely expected to be one of the biggest cinematic juggernauts of the year.
