After the disappointing performance of War 2, director Ayan Mukerji has decided to step away from directing Dhoom 4. Sources close to the project reveal that Ayan expressed his reservations in a private discussion with producer Aditya Chopra, explaining that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 don’t align with his creative vision. According to an insider, Ayan wants to focus on projects with broader scope—blending romance, drama, spectacle, and storytelling—rather than just executing scripts written by others.
The insider further explained that Ayan’s role in Dhoom 4 was limited to directing what was already scripted by Shridhar Raghavan, leaving him little creative input. As a passionate filmmaker, Ayan prefers to be deeply involved in the writing process and bring his own vision to the screen, rather than simply directing pre-written material. The decision to step back came after multiple conversations with Aditya Chopra and lead actor Ranbir Kapoor, both of whom understood and respected Ayan’s perspective.
The split was amicable, and Ayan has now shifted his full attention to Brahmastra 2, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The script for Brahmastra 2 is reportedly complete, with some final polishing underway while Ayan spends time in the Himalayas. The film is expected to go into production in 2026.Meanwhile, Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films are exploring other directors for Dhoom 4.
There are even suggestions that Aditya Chopra himself might take on the directorial role, especially since Ranbir Kapoor has already cleared his schedule for the project. With these developments, the future of Dhoom 4 remains dynamic, and more updates are expected in the coming months.
