Producer Mukesh Bhatt has clarified that the postponement of the much-anticipated sequel Awarapan 2 to May or June 2026 is not due to competition from other major releases like Dhurandhar 2 or Toxic. Contrary to widespread speculation that the film’s release was delayed to avoid clashing with these big films, Bhatt emphasized that the shift is purely due to production-related reasons.
Mukesh Bhatt revealed that during the shoot, lead actor Emraan Hashmi suffered an accident that required surgery, and as a result, he has been advised to avoid performing action sequences for 45 days. This medical setback has delayed the completion of the film’s remaining action scenes, which are crucial to the storyline. “The release date of Awarapan 2 has been shifted to either May or June because Emraan had to undergo surgery and cannot do action for 45 days,” Bhatt told PTI.
He firmly dismissed any notion of fearing box office competition, stating, “I’m not scared of Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic.”According to Bhatt, only one shooting schedule remains, which is expected to take place in Malaysia and will last about 20 days. This final phase includes the key action sequences that were postponed due to Emraan’s injury.
Talking about the film Awarapan 2 happens to be the sequel to the 2007 action-romance drama Awarapan, which gained a cult following for its intense narrative and Emraan Hashmi’s performance. The sequel reunites Hashmi with director Nitin Kakkar and writer Bilal Siddiqui, and features prominent actors like Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
